Confident Calligraphy - The Basics - with Andy Kennedy Two class series - Thursday Evenings DATES: June 7 & 14, 2012 TIME: 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. TWO CLASS SERIES FEE: $75 per person; Materials: $20 Learn several fonts from traditional styles to modern, and gain confidence with holding the pen, flow of the ink, and calligraphy style. Instructor: Andrea Jehn Kennedy has a Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, and graduated Cum Laude in her field in 1995. Her studies focused on calligraphy, pen and ink, Chinese art, and photography. Andy moved to Steamboat in 1998 "for just one summer," and fell in love with the community. She has worked for many small businesses in town, and also started her own small business with her husband Craig in 2003, Access Anything, a nationally leading company focused on adventure travel for people with disabilities. Andy also sits on the Board of Directors for the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council, and leads a women's photography club in town. She has recently begun offering her calligraphy skills to several Steamboat wedding planners, and is excited by the rejuvenated interest in this traditional art form. |

EN PLEIN AIR LANDSCAPES FOR BEGINNERS/INTERMEDIATE OIL PAINTING WITH HANNAH HALL NEW TWO WEEKEND SERIES June 23 & 24 - Saturday and Sunday OR July 21 & 22 - Saturday and Sunday TIME: 9:00am - 11:30 am CLASS FEE: $150 for each weekend series - or $250 for both!! MATERIAL COST: Bring your own supplies or purchase what you need at our retail store!! This weekend class is made up of two three-hour sessions of landscape painting on site, outside. Ideally, this class will help you to become comfortable painting from real life as well as hone your abilities to mix real-life colors, and determine value differences and perspective in nature. You might paint one larger piece or a handful of small, quick sketches. Either way, you will come out of this class feeling more confident in your ability to go out and create! We will meet at The Yampa Valley Art Institute and the rest of the sessions will be around town. A list of supplies is available. |

BASIC DRAWING LEVEL 1 CLASS For TEENS & ADULTS with Hannah Hall NEW SUMMER SERIES Monday mornings - Three sessions Beginning July 9, 16 & 23 TIME: 10am to 12 NOON CLASS FEE: $90 Class Fee per person Basic Drawing Materials: INCLUDED - can buy extra at our retail store. This drawing workshop will start small and end big! We will begin the series just getting comfortable with different drawing materials and techniques with some fun exercises. Working on rendering and shading, we will move toward creating a still life drawing and eventually we will begin to work on some figure drawing. You will come out of this class feeling more comfortable with a drawing tool in your hand, and you will have the confidence of a seasoned artist! |

BASIC 101 BEGINNING OIL/ACRYLIC PAINTING WITH HANNAH HALL EVERY FRIDAY AT NOON ALL SUMMER LONG BEGINNING JUNE 29th THRU AUGUST 10th 12:00 Noon - 3:00 pm CLASS FEE: $50 for the class- bring your own supplies Call to register! This workshop is open to all painting skill levels. No prior experience with oils is required. Feel like you need a brush up on some basic painting techniques? This quick three-hour workshop is the one for you! We will start with value studies and a brief instruction on shading techniques, rendering shapes and composition. We will also cover various painting tools and get comfortable with the use of each type of brush, medium and canvas. And you will get a comprehensive understanding of color theory and some mixing techniques. |

MOSAIC WORKSHOP FOR BEGINNERS/INTERMEDIATES USING CERAMIC TILES/POTTERY WITH BARBARA COHEN MOSAIC-TWO PART SERIES BEGINS Friday morning - August 3rd - 9:00 to 12:00 p.m. Monday morning - August 6th - 10-12 p.m. CLASS FEE: $100 per person; Materials: $30.00 Learn the basics of creating indoor/outdoor pique-assiette* mosaics using ceramic tiles and/or pottery. You will complete a birdhouse or planter using a 6” clay plot as a substrate or a wooden bird house. You will learn: How to draw a pattern on your base; How to choose your materials; To get familiar with tools; How to cut your tiles and pottery; Use the correct adhesive; Grout your finished pot or frame. There will be lots of information given verbally in this class and some written material will be supplied as well. The first session is for gluing down tiles and allowing them to dry, the second session is for grouting. Clay pot or picture frame, tools, adhesive, and grout will be provided. Students can bring their own tiles and dishes with advice in a materials list. *style of mosaic that incorporates pieces of broken ceramics - plates, dishes, and tiles |

Can bring own laptop or bring photos to import from a CD or USB flash drive. Basic photo editing will be included if needed. |
